In Sun Village, a pool can look reasonably clean while the circulation system is already working too hard. High winds push sand, tumbleweed fragments, leaves, and fine dust into skimmer baskets and pump strainer baskets. During Antelope Valley summers, surface temperatures can climb well over 110Β°F, and that debris load is combined with intense UV exposure and rapid water evaporation.
When flow is restricted, the pump may run longer without actually moving enough water through the filter and sanitizer system. You may notice weak return jets, air bubbles coming back into the pool, a skimmer that barely pulls in floating debris, or a pressure gauge that rises above its normal reading. The pump can also run hotter, which increases wear on the motor, shaft seal, capacitor, and bearings.
A clean circulation path helps your chemicals work properly. Chlorine must be distributed throughout the pool, and acid or other balancing chemicals need adequate circulation before they can be safely measured. In a typical residential pool, free chlorine is commonly maintained around 2 to 4 parts per million, with pH between 7.2 and 7.8. Poor flow can leave stagnant areas where algae starts, even when the test kit shows an acceptable chlorine level near the return jets.
