Built-in benches can make a pool area feel finished and provide seating that will not blow into the water. Masonry, concrete block with a stucco finish, or poured concrete can be durable, but the top must be properly sloped and waterproofed. Use a slight drainage slope and install a comfortable, replaceable cushion rather than relying on a permanently exposed fabric pad.

Do not place built-in seating where it blocks skimmer access, return fittings, pool lights, or the equipment pad. Leave service access for any junction boxes and conduit associated with pool lighting. Pool lights are low-voltage systems, but their transformers, niches, wiring, and connections still require safe inspection and code-compliant work. If a light trips the GFCI, flickers, or has water intrusion, avoid using the fixture until it is checked.

Use two or three movable chairs instead of one oversized sectional if wind exposure is significant. A pair of chaise lounges can sit near—but not directly in—the sunniest area, giving swimmers a place to dry off while keeping the primary walkway clear.

Use weighted bases or furniture designed for windy conditions. Secure umbrellas when they are unattended; a patio umbrella can become a projectile during a wind event. Fold or store lightweight pieces before strong Santa Ana-type winds and after checking the forecast.

Finally, plan nighttime comfort with lighting that supports safety without shining directly into swimmers' eyes. Low-glare path lights, warm wall lighting, and properly functioning pool lights make steps and deck edges easier to see. Avoid aiming bright fixtures at the water or placing lamps where cords cross wet walking areas.
